GOOD NEWS, LED light bulb prices may drop to US$10-20 in 2011
Prices of LED Light bulb may drop to US$10-20 in 2011 from current US$30, as the production cost will drop rapidly if Taiwan-based LED players step up producing LED light bulbs amid growing competition between vendors in the Europe and Japan markets, according to Delta Electronics CEO Yancey Hai.
Delta plans to expand its LED packaging production lines in Dongguan, China to meet increasing orders from Japan-based vendors, Hai noted.
Japan-based vendors are vying the Japan LED market, as LED Lighting products, with low power consumption and long life, have strong market potential in Japan, where electricity fees are high, Hai added.
LED light bulbs' market share in Japan's Lighting market increased to 10% in February 2010 from 0.01% in 2009 and LED's market share is expected to continue to increase, as the Japan government will introduce a program to encourage the purchase of eco-friendly products, including LED light bulbs, according to data from GFK.
Toshiba has stopped production of incandescent bulbs, while Panasonic expects LED lighting business to account for 30% of its total revenues in 2015.
ASPs of LED lighting products are expected to drop by 10% in the next 5-6 years compared to the current ASPs, Philips have noted. The LED lighting industry's value will exceed the conventional lighting industry's in 2015, Philips said, adding that LED lighting will account for 75% of the total lighting market in 2020.
